Day 22: A joke

A woman went to the doctor's office. She was seen by one of the new doctors, but after about four minutes in the examination room, she burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped and asked her what the problem was, and she explained. He had her sit down and relax in another room.

The older doctor marched back to the first and demanded, "What's the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was PREGNANT?"

The new doctor smiled smugly as he continued to write on his clipboard.

"Cured her hiccups though, didn't it?"

Day 21 — A favorite recipe

This is by far the best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe ever!!!! Hope you enjoy! Pictures are compliments of my mother-in-law. She loves Pioneer Woman and we are trying to talk John into doing a cooking blog because he is an amazing cook!! Got this recipe from The Best Recipes Cookbook.

~Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies~

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
melted and cooled until warm
1 cup of light or dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips or
18 pieces of dark dove chocolate broken up

1. Adjust oven racks to upper- and lower-middle positions and heat oven to 325 degrees. Line two large cookie sheets with parchment paper. Or use a silpat

2. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt together in medium bowl; set aside.

3. Either by hand or with electric mixer, mix butter and sugars until thoroughly blended.

Beat in egg, yolk, and vanilla until combined.

Add dry ingredients and beat at low speed just until combined.

Stir in chips to taste.

(we did dove dark chocolate placed in a ziploc bad and bashed up with a meat tenderizer)

4. Roll scant 1/4 cup dough into ball.

Holding dough ball in fingertips of both hands, pull into two equal haves.

Rotate halves 90 degrees and, with jagged surfaces facing up, join halves together at their base, again forming a single ball, being careful not to smooth dough's uneven surface.

Place formed dough onto cookie sheet, leaving 2 1/2 inches bewtween each ball.

5. Bake reversing position of cookie sheets halfway through baking (from top to bottom and front to back), until cookies are light golden brown and outer edges start to harden yet centers are still soft and puffy, 15-18  mins. (I found 14 mins is the best!!)
Then place on a cooling rack or leave on the parchment paper.
Hope someone really cooks these cookies because they are A-mazing!!! If you do please comment on them!

Day 20 — A hobby of mine

My all time favorite hobby since I was alittle girl is playing softball!! I skipped t-ball and went straight to coach pitch. I played slow pitch softball up to my 8th grade year. Then the summer of my 8th grade year to my Freshman year they started a fast pitch softball team at our high school. So I took a softball camp at Texas A&M I think it was....

Holy crap those softballs came at me way faster than slow pitch so it was a huge adjust me but was able to do it! I made varsity softball all four years in high school which was awesome. But now that Im an adult they dont have fast pitch for my age so Im back to slow pitch.

I play on a womens competitive slow pitch team here in dallas. We travel near and far to play. Our goal every year is to go to world and win! We got 17th out of 199 teams last year. Pretty dang close. Here is a few pics of my days as a softballer:

Gas Prices...

Ive been stuck in the house for pretty much a week in a half and decided to get out and go watch my softball team play our game. As Im driving home I notice that gas here is 3.17 a gallon. What the hell?? Before my ankles got hurt it was 2.89. The cost of living just keeps going up and up. I really wished they would put a cap on how much a gas station can charge for gas. $5.00 gallon. Just a vent! Thanks for reading...

Day 19 — A fun memory

My funniest memory was when I was a sophmore in high school. I had just moved from my hometown of Wylie to another city and had to go to another high school. In wylie I was on the varsity softball team so mesquite let me be on there varsity team there. So I had alot of proving to do to stay on this team.

So on a saturday we had a softball tournament in Allen. The day before it rained pretty bad and the fields where very muddy. I hadnt hit at all that day. Finally I hit the ball to the infield I guess and I ran as hard as I could and fell to far away from the base to touch it. I fell flat on my face and my helmet got stuck in the mud and it wouldnt come out. I was doing everything I could to get it out of the mud and try to touch the base at the same time. Then the first baseman just tags me with her glove and ball. Your out!

I finally got up hid my face in the helmet and ran back to the dug out crying. What's even worse is someone had this on video...

Love vs Hate about being a Respiratory Therapist

My best friend post buddy MrsJt09 is considering going to respiratory school and wanted me to list my love and hates of my job. So I decided to post it here as well:

I will start with love because there really isnt much hate about it.

Love:

-It makes you feel good that you can help someone

-You save lives

-You are probably smarter than alot of nurses and doctors

-You have the best critical thinking skills in the whole hospital

-It makes you realize how short life is and makes you grow and appreciate life alot more

-I love the team work that you the nurse and doctor do to make a person better

-In a code situation(someone dying on us) you, nurse, and doctor are the most important

-If you are a people person this is the place for you

-Your not stuck with two patients all day and give tons of meds like nurses.

-You and the nurse are the only people in the hospital who give medications

-Working at a hospital for a long time that becomes your second family

-Love only working 3 days a week. Very easy to plan a vacation

-I get to wear scrubs and its like wearing pajamas to work

Hate

-Dealing with different personalities in the workforce which is the same everywhere

-People thinking the only thing I do is check oxygen levels

-Sometimes looked down upon from nurses and doctors

-We dont close for bad weather

-Sometimes limited on what we can do to help a patient

-Death but I think over time this gets easier

-Dealing with the family is by far the hardest part for me. You will cry from time to time its normal

Update on Ankles..

Well I called in to work the next three days because there is no way I can walk up to 5 miles each day. I woke up this morning and they were super sore. I think I might have pushed myself to hard yesterday. I was trying to prove to myself that I could go to work and I would be fine. But a sweet coworker and friend really thought I should stay at home and let it heal.

Here is a updated look at my ankles:
